Emmy Nominations Reaction


Last Thursday the Emmy nominations were announced. I don't follow the Emmys as closely as the Oscars and Golden Globes, but it's always interesting to see the field. Below are some thoughts on this year's field.

Best Drama:
This year there are seven nominees and a lot of worthy options. It's worth celebrating that "The Americans" is finally getting the recognition it so richly deserves. "Mr. Robot" is a show that breaks barriers and has changed the genre, so it's nice to see it getting recognized. On the filp side, how is "Homeland" in this group? But no show had a better season than "Game of Thrones," which should win the Emmy for Best Drama.

Best Comedy:
Could HBO sweep the top categories? It's possible. "Silicon Valley" continues to improve, delivering a strong third season, while "VEEP" went off book for season five with some incredible results.

Best Limited:
This is, perhaps, the toughest category of all. It's hard to believe "Fargo's" second season, which feels like it was forever ago, is just now being recognized this year by the Emmys. It should be a lock to win, but so much has happened since then.  "The People vs. OJ Simpson" was this winter's best series, and "Roots" was an iconic re-make.

Acting:
It's nice to see Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell recognized for their superb work on "The Americans." Likewise it's great to see Tatiana Maslany breaking through for her work on "Orphan Black." While the show has slipped a bit, her work as a half dozen different characters is astonishing.

There were a lot of familiar faces in the acting competitions, so it will be interesting to see if new blood gets the call. A lot of shows have gotten multiple nominees, too. "The People vs. OJ Simpson" saw many in the cast nominated, including the incredible Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark. "Game of Thrones," too, is breaking into the acting categories in a big way. Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Maisie Williams and past winner Peter Dinkledge were all nominated. It will be interesting to see if "Game of Thrones" dominates the evening, as it could and probably should.

The Emmys telecast is in September.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need. Tight End: The team brought back Adam Trautman and still has Greg Dulcich, but it's still a need. Dulcich hasn't been able to get on the field and Trautman hasn't been great. Co
