Superhero Movie Countdown — No. 7


Today on the countdown I pivot to one of the most interesting entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

No. 7 — Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Starring: Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, and Sebastian Stan

The S.T.R.I.K.E. and Insight crew are HYDRA as well. I don't know how many more, but I know they're in the building. They could be standing right next to you. They almost have what they want. Absolute control. They shot Nick Fury. And it won't end there. If you launch those helicarriers today, HYDRA will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way. Unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot. But the price of freedom is high. It always has been. And it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. About: Game-changers don't get much bigger than what happened in the second Captain America film. In "Winter Soldier" Steve Rogers (Evans) is reunited with his friend, who he thought was dead, and finds that S.H.I.E.L.D. and everything he thought he knew is a lie. The film had huge ramifications that rippled throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe and into the world of TV, where "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." had a major course correction, too. For that reason alone it would stand out. But this movie also has a great quality about it. Captain America has never been my favorite of the Avengers world, but he does get some of the better movies. His origin story was a pitch-perfect World War II story. This second film is like a spy thriller, at times, while being a faithful comic book movie. It's a credit to Evans as an actor, and his range, that he can do so much in these films. It's not my favorite Marvel film, but it might be their best. It's certainly worth checking out.
Rating: PG-13 for intense sequences of violence, gunplay and action throughout.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
