Upcoming Movie Releases, September


We're into September. The summer blockbusters are past, but we're going to start seeing some fascinating movies of substance. Fall movie season is upon us.

Friday, September 2:
Light Between Oceans - In the past, Labor Day weekend has been a dumping ground of cheap horror and action films. That was last weekend. This Labor Day, we get a prestige drama starring Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. Prepare to cry.

Morgan - This is a corporate thriller that's kind of flown under the radar. I don't know what to make of that, but I like the cast and, potentially, the idea.

Friday, September 9:
Sully - Tom Hanks stars as the pilot who performed the Miracle on the Hudson. This could, potentially, be one of the best releases of the early fall.

Wild Life - This is the first animated movie of the fall. It's set on an island with some colorful characters, but I just can't get too excited.

When the Bough Breaks - We've seen this movie 100 times. This time it's Morris Chestnut as the man that gets trapped between his wife and an overly aggressive female admirer. Not sure why this got made.

Friday, September 16:
Snowden - Director Oliver Stone, known for tackling controversial subjects, does it again. This film, featuring Joseph Gordon Levitt, takes a look at the story of Edward Snowden.

Hillsong: Let Hope Rise - This long-delayed documentary on the world renowned praise band finally appears ready for release.

Bridget Jones' Baby - It's been more than a decade since Renee Zelwegger suited up as Bridget Jones. Now she's back in a film that looks to offer more situational comedy gold.

Blair Witch - It's been 17 years since "The Blair Witch Project." Now we get the sequel no one was clamoring for. Yay...

Friday, September 23:
The Magnificent Seven - A re-make of a classic (two really), but this looks like it's gonna be a blast! Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt lead an all-star cast.

Queen of Katwe - This is a charming biopic of a young chess player in Africa. David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong'o star in the film, which looks like it could be charming.

Storks - This is another animated film from the fall that focuses on the last stork to deliver a child before they get out of the child delivery business. Hilarity ensues.

Friday, September 30:
Deepwater Horizon - Mark Wahlberg re-teams with his "Lone Survivor" director Peter Berg for a biopic of the deadly spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children - Tim Burton brings his unique visual style to this unique story. It looks like it could be a fun, engaging, and different kind of story.

Masterminds - This comedy starring Zach Galifinakis and Kristen Wiig was long delayed. It was originally due last summer, but instead is getting a birth this fall. Presumably it will still be pretty funny.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need. Tight End: The team brought back Adam Trautman and still has Greg Dulcich, but it's still a need. Dulcich hasn't been able to get on the field and Trautman hasn't been great. Co

True Grit (1969) Starring : John Wayne, Kim Darby, Glen Campbell, Robert Duvall, and Dennis Hopper Director : Henry Hathaway About: This is the third straight week with a film from Wayne. As you might guess, we're not done. As I've mentioned, he sets a standard for the genre. Here, we seen him bring to life an iconic character. This one is based on a novel, and it has endured.
