2016 Broncos Season, Week Three


The Broncos have gotten off to another strong start and look like a potential title contender again.

Week Three: Broncos 29, Cincinnati Bengals 16
Season Record: 3-0 (2-0 Home)
Key Play: In the fourth quarter, leading 22-16, Trevor Siemian dropped back and connected with Demaryius Thomas on 55-yard touchdown strike, his fourth of the day, to expand the lead to 29-16, putting the game out of reach.

Recap: The Denver Broncos are 3-0. While it's certainly not a shock, it's unexpected. Many pundits thought the Broncos would struggle on Sunday in Cincinnati. Instead, they showed a new way to win. Going into the game, the Bengals were a team that threw it all over the field but couldn't run. The Broncos, meanwhile, got off to a great start with CJ Anderson but struggled to find consistency in the passing game. The reverse was the case Sunday, as Jeremy Hill exploded early for the Bengals on the ground, and Siemian showed that he can command the pass offense. The Broncos got 100-plus yard days from Emmanuel Sanders and Thomas, and they quieted some critics with a decisive road win over a playoff opponent. It's the kind of start the defending Super Bowl champs need to put pressure on the rest of the league and serve notice that their quest for a title repeat is the real deal.

Game Balls:
* Trevor Siemian. All he's done is win his first three starts, doing so with a convincing performance on Sunday. Siemian didn't turn the ball over, and threw for 312 yards and four touchdowns.
* Emmanuel Sanders. Ask and ye shall receive. Sanders made it known he wanted more receptions to come his way, and they did Sunday. He put up nine receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
* Demaryius Thomas. Thomas caught six passes for 100 yards and a touchdown, and he looks like he's back healthy and strong.
* Shane Ray. DeMarcus who? Just kidding, but Ray showed his skill with a three sack day in an expanded role on Sunday.

Lingering Questions:
* Health. The Broncos have managed to stay relatively healthy, which is key for a title defense. While the team is deep, key injuries in certain areas could prove devastating.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
