Upcoming Releases, October


September was a great month for new releases, and October looks to follow suit. Of course we still get the traditional horror movies in the run up to Halloween, but each week in October we'll also get at least one interesting new release. Here's a look at what's to come! Buckle up, there's tons of new releases in October.

Friday, October 7:
The Girl on the Train -- Based on the popular book, this film chronicles the journey of a woman who claims to have witnessed an attack on another woman who disappeared. But is she telling the truth, or slowly losing her mind. The book was a sensation, and the movie, starring Emily Blunt, looks to be pretty incredible.

Birth of a Nation -- This is Nate Parker's film that shares a title with a famous silent film but offers a completely different look at our nation's history. The film became controversial because of allegations made against Parker more than a decade earlier, but could remain part of the Best Picture conversation.

Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life -- This is a film where we throw the kids a bone. It also looks like it might be amusing for adults, judging by the trailer. It's nice counter programming to the heavier releases this first weekend in October.

Friend Request -- There are plenty of people that think Social Media is a horror show, but this film takes that literally. This film is about a woman who gets a friend request on Facebook that leads to her life falling apart. I think we've all been there...

Friday, October 14:
The Accountant -- Ben Affleck stars as a man with a special set of skills that leads him into some trouble. The film co-stars Anna Kendrick and looks like it could, potentially, be the best film of the month. Count me as among those excited to see Affleck, an under rated actor, tackle this role.

Max Steel -- Here's a live action movie based on a popular kid's toy. This is another one for the kids.

Desierto -- Directed by Jonas Cuaron, son of Alfonso, is a rough tale of illegal immigration. Doubtless it will spark plenty of conversation, and comes from a certain political perspective. It features Gael Garcia Bernal and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Kevin Hart: What Now? -- Kevin Hart has become one of the most reliably funny movie stars, and that includes his stand up specials. "What Now?" is the latest of those specials, and looks like a win for those who enjoy Hart's brand of comedy.

Friday, October 21:
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back -- This is the second Jack Reacher film, also starring Tom Cruise. The first film did decently, pulling in an audience likely because of the popular book series. This one looks like it could potentially be even better than the first.

Keeping Up With the Joneses -- This comedy about spies that move into a quiet suburban neighborhood. It stars Jon Hamm, Gal Gadot, Zach Galifinakis and Isla Fisher. It looks like a fun fall film.

Ouija: Origin of Evil -- This is another horror movie built around the nefarious aftermath of using a Ouija board. Halloween is coming...

31 -- This is the latest horror film from Rob Zombie. It will likely be violent, gross and a more than a little over-the-top.

Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween -- I think by now we all know what Madea movies are about. This is the latest film, a Halloween-themed adventure.

Friday, October 28:
Inferno -- It's been a few years since the last adventure with Professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks). This is yet another adventure that involves history, important artifacts, and the world's foremost symbologist.

American Pastoral -- This film has an impressive cast, including Jennifer Connelly, Dakota Fanning, and Ewan McGregor, and follows a family that struggles with the political and social turmoil of the 1960s. It remains a bit of a mystery, but I find myself intrigued by the premise and the cast. This could be one of those sneaky interesting films we get in the rich fall movie-going season. The film is based on the Phillip Roth novel and marks McGregor's directorial debut.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
