Oscar's Week — The Actresses


As we continue through Oscar's Week, it's time to take a look at the leading and supporting ladies vying for the awards on Sunday.

Best Actress:
* Emma Stone, "La La Land"
* Meryl Streep, "Florence Foster Jenkins"
* Natalie Portman, "Jackie"
* Isabelle Huppert, "Elle"
* Ruth Negga, "Loving"

About: This is one of the major categories that, barring a true surprise, feels locked up. Streep is a perennial nominee, but her film this year doesn't have cache. And Portman, Huppert, and Negga gave good performances, but their films haven't drawn a lot of attention, either. Meanwhile, "La La Land" is a favorite for the top prize, and the bubbly and talented Stone has been sweeping up things this awards season. Expect more of the same Sunday.

Best Supporting Actress:
* Viola Davis, "Fences"
* Octavia Spencer, "Hidden Figures"
* Naomie Harris, "Moonlight"
* Nicole Kidman, "Lion"
* Michelle Williams, "Manchester By the Sea"

About: This is one of the most diverse and loaded acting categories, with all five nominees coming from Best Picture contenders, too. But don't expect that to help sway the category too much. You could make a case for any of these five ladies and their fierce, emotional and haunting performances. But which one will get the win. I think it's Davis. It's a crime she's never won before, and her powerhouse work in "Fences" could easily have made her a lead actress contender. I think it's time she finally got recognized for the fierce performer she is, and I think she will.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
