Summer Movie Preview, Pt. 2


Summer is coming. In part one, I looked a five movies that have the potential to break out in May and June. Today, I complete my summer preview with five potential gems from July and August.

July Releases:
Spider-man: Homecoming, Friday, July 7
About: I know what you're thinking, "Spider-man" again? Really? It's a fair thought. Since the original "Spider-man" film debuted in 2002, there have been five films with two different casts. But that was before Marvel got the rights back. This latest incarnation first appeared in "Captain America: Civil War" and, frankly, was one of the best things about that movie. Now he gets his own solo feature, bringing Robert Downey, Jr.'s Iron Man along with him. The trailer looks great and I have faith this will be the best Spidey yet.

Dunkirk, Friday, July 21
About: Two words for you: Christopher Nolan. He's a master director, and his films are a love letter to the craft of filmmaking. And let's not forget, the man knows his way around a summer blockbuster as evidenced by the "Dark Knight" trilogy. I think "Dunkirk" will be one of the finest films of summer, and one of the finest films of 2017. Can't wait.

Atomic Blond, Friday, July 28
About: A few days ago "The Fate of the Furious" was released and one of the things that was impossible to miss about that movie was how much fun Charlize Theron appeared to be having vamping it up. The same could be said for this action-packed trailer. This looks like the kind of movie summer was made for, and it looks like a heck of a ride.

August Releases:
Dark Tower, Friday, August 4
About: This long gestating film is based on a Stephen King book series. It stars Idris Elba and Matthew McCounaghey. Other than that, I don't know a ton about it. But I'm intrigued. This seems like the kind of late summer release that could make a big splash. It's a dystopian tale that could be the start of a franchise.

Wind River, Friday, August 4
About: Taylor Sheridan is riding a hot streak of late. The scribe has given us "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water" the past two years, and now he's back at it with "Wind River," which he also directed. The film earned rave reviews at Sundance and will get a major wide release in August. It stars Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen and Jon Bernthal, and follows a murder investigation on a Native American reservation. Not your typical summer film, but neither was "Hell or High Water" and look how that turned out.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need. Tight End: The team brought back Adam Trautman and still has Greg Dulcich, but it's still a need. Dulcich hasn't been able to get on the field and Trautman hasn't been great. Co

  Do you like a good Western? It's a classic genre in film and this year I've decided to look at some of my favorite Westerns.
