Upcoming Releases — June 2017


We're into summer, and the blockbusters keep coming. Here's a look at what to expect this month.

Friday, June 2:
Wonder Woman — This is the latest entry in the DC Comics universe. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) made her debut in "Batman vs. Superman: The Dawn of Justice" last March, but now she gets her own solo turn. This is one of my picks for the top films of summer, and by early reviews that's holding true. Gadot is great as this character, and I think this might be the first entry in this DC Universe that lives up to the hype.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie — This animated feature, based on the popular book series, will likely be a good family draw. Since May didn't yield much in the way of family-friendly entertainment, this will be a welcome bit of counter-programming.

Friday, June 9:
The Mummy — If you read this site regularly, you know I picked this as one of the bombs of summer. I stand by that. What's worse is Universal wants to use this to launch a movie franchise built around Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Russell Crowe, in 2017.... Yikes.

It Comes At Night — Low-cost horror movies never have a season, in fact they seem to come out all year. Here's the latest addition.

Friday, June 16:
All Eyez On Me — This biopic is about the rapper Tupac. It's so far earned good early praise and could be a fascinating addition to summer.

Rough Night — This comedy is about a Bachelorette Party that goes wrong. The cast is great, including Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Kravitz, Jillian Bell and Kate McKinnon. This could be a fun comedy in the style of "The Hangover."

Cars 3 — Pixar is known for their films that make a lot at the Box Office and make connection with fans. "Cars 3" is the third installment in the "Cars" franchise, which has never been my favorite. But it will likely be one of the hits of summer.

47 Meters Down — I am a sucker for a good shark movie, so I'm in on this. The latest shark movie stars Mandy Moore, which led to the natural question if she gets eaten in this film, does that mean we no longer have to suffer through "This Is Us?" That could make this a winning summer.

Wednesday, June 21:
Transformers: The Last Knight — The fifth! installment in the franchise could be the final one from director Michael Bay. I feel like we've heard that before. It could also be just another cog in the never-ending franchises. Reports are the next 14 installments of this franchise have been written. The trailer looks good, but they always do. The last "Transformers" movie was bad. This one will likely be more of the same.

Wednesday, June 28:
Baby Driver — This latest film from Edgar Wright looks like it has plenty of action and an engaging story. This could be one of the surprise gems of summer.

Friday, June 30:
Despicable Me 3 — Another animated series launching its third entry during this summer. This is another one that's popular with fans and will likely draw a crowd heading into July 4th weekend.

The House — This Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler is about a couple that needs money for their daughter to attend college. To make the money, they open a house casino. This looks like another winning comedy this summer.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need. Tight End: The team brought back Adam Trautman and still has Greg Dulcich, but it's still a need. Dulcich hasn't been able to get on the field and Trautman hasn't been great. Co

  Do you like a good Western? It's a classic genre in film and this year I've decided to look at some of my favorite Westerns. As you might guess, we're not done. As I've mentioned, he sets a standard for the genre. Here, we seen him bring to life an iconic character. This one is based on a novel, and it has endured. He's great as Rooster Cogburn, so good that he got a sequel in the same character. But this is a later film in his career. This is a different, more grizzled Wayne.
