Upcoming Releases — August



Summer is nearly over. While August is still considered a summer movie month, it features decidedly fewer blockbusters than what precedes it. Here's a look at what's coming in August.

Friday, August 4:
The Dark Tower — This highly anticipated film, based on the books from Stephen King, looks pretty good. I haven't read the books, so I don't know that much about the original story, but I've been taken with the trailer. Plus, with Idris Elba and Matthew McCounaghey, this looks good.

Detroit — This film comes at an interesting time. It looks at police violence during a time of race-related turbulence in our country. It feels especially relevant to our current political climate, sadly.

Kidnap — This film stars Halle Berry as a woman whose son is kidnapped, so she decides to take it upon herself to get him back. It looks like the kind of movies dumped this time of year.

Wind River — This limited feature comes from Taylor Sheridan, writer of "Hell or High Water" and "Sicario," and stars Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner as a pair trying to solve a murder on a Native America Reservation. This could be a sneaky Oscar contender.

Friday, August 11:
Annabelle: Creation — Of course horror movies don't really have a season. This one, part of the "Annabelle," and "Conjuring" universe, look sufficiently creepy.

The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature — This animated sequel to "The Nut Job" features a strong voice cast and will provide a little family programming.

The Glass Castle — This film looks to be a potential early Oscar contender, starring Brie Larson, Woody Harelson, and Naomi Watts. It looks  like a great drama, and something a little different for the end of summer.

Friday, August 18:
The Hitman's Bodyguard — This action comedy stars Samuel L. Jackson as a hitman turned witness for the prosecution and Ryan Reynolds as the private security guard hired to protect him. This looks like a great bit of late summer fun.

Logan Lucky— This limited release from Steven Soderbergh has a great cast, including Channing Tatum, Adam Driver and Daniel Craig. It looks like a lot of fun.

Friday, August 25:
Polaroid — A small horror film that's been a bit under the radar. This is obviously a low Box Office weekend with two very small nationwide releases.

All Saints — This film, starring John Corbett, is a faith-based story about a small church pastor and the group of refugees he was called to minister to.

Wednesday, August 30:
Leap — This animated musical film was originally slated for Spring and is popping up the Wednesday before Labor Day weekend.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need. Tight End: The team brought back Adam Trautman and still has Greg Dulcich, but it's still a need. Dulcich hasn't been able to get on the field and Trautman hasn't been great. Co

  Do you like a good Western? It's a classic genre in film and this year I've decided to look at some of my favorite Westerns. As you might guess, we're not done. As I've mentioned, he sets a standard for the genre. Here, we seen him bring to life an iconic character. This one is based on a novel, and it has endured.
