2017 Broncos' Season, Week 6

We all feel that way, Trevor...

Week 6: New York Giants 23, Broncos 10
Season Record: 3-2 (3-1 Home)
Key Play: In the first half, with the Broncos trailing 10-3 and less than two minutes left in the half, Trevor Siemian threw a short pass that was intercepted by Janoris Jenkins, who returned it for a touchdown, making the score 17-3 and putting the game away.

Recap: For years now, I've been leery of the uniform combination that includes Navy Blue tops and Navy Blue pants. I think it's really the pants that put it over-the-top, especially in Prime Time. We always seem to find new ways to lose. Such was the case on Sunday night, as we returned from a bye week for a nationally televised home game against a team that came in 0-5 with their best players all out and injured. The Broncos were favored by 12.5 points, and it felt like the classic trap game. As was the Week 3 game in Buffalo. And for the second time this season, the Broncos fell into the trap. The team came out flat, never found a way to get it going, and ended up essentially getting dominated for three hours at home on Sunday night. The offense turned it over too much and the defense didn't seem to be able to get it together. After holding the likes of Ezekiel Elliot, LeSean McCoy, Melvin Gordon, and Marshawn Lynch to 95 yards combined in four games, the Broncos allowed Orleans Darkwa to run for 117 yards on Sunday night. What gives?!?!?! It was brutal, and there's not a lot left to say. What's worse is that with the Raiders and Chiefs losing earlier in the day, the Broncos had a golden opportunity to move up in the standings. Instead, they head off on a three game road trip on a losing note, and we'll have to see how they rebound in San Diego on Sunday.

Game Balls:
* Demaryius Thomas. Thomas reached a milestone, going over 8,000 yards for his career. But, more importantly, he looked like the only one who was really trying. He grabbed 10 passes for 133 yards.
* Justin Simmons. Simmons has taken some flack since replacing TJ Ward, and he hasn't been perfect. In fact, he wasn't perfect last night. But his 11 tackles led the team, and he is playing really hard.

Lingering Concerns:
* Health. I said Saturday the Broncos needed to avoid major injuries. On Sunday night, Menelik Watson left with an injury, while Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah McKenzie both left on carts. Not a great sign. Not to mention, DT also looked pretty injured at times. This is not the way to come out of the bye, and now the Broncos just have to hope Sanders isn't gone long.
* Poor Play. I'm looking at you, Trevor Siemian. Sure, he threw for 376 yards and a garbage time TD. But Siemian hasn't been good in the last three games, and it shows. Not to mention, what was up with the running game, which abandoned the team. It was ugly.
