2018 Broncos' Season, Week 16

Week 16: Oakland Raiders 27, Broncos 14
Season Record: 6-9 (3-4 Home)
Key Play: In the first quarter, the Broncos whiffed on punt coverage and allowed Dwayne Harris to return one 99 yards for the score. It made it 7-0 at the time but set the tone for the day.

Recap: To recap the famous poem, "This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but with a whimper." It's not the end of the world, but it's the end of a long, brutal season for the Broncos. And Monday night's disgrace in Oakland shows that the team will, indeed, let the season end with a whimper. Its lone bright spot, Phillip Lindsay, was injured in the game and will miss the rest of the season and likely the Pro Bowl. While the Pro Bowl doesn't count for anything in the standings, it's a fun opportunity that will be missed by my favorite Bronco, who has a broken wrist and damaged ligaments. And the team so obviously under performed in every key area, they've clearly quit on Vance Joseph. There was some thought he'd be fired today, despite it being Christmas, but I guess that will have to wait until New Year's Eve. For now, it's easy to wonder how this team ever won six games, including beating the Chargers and Steelers. Because what we've seen the last three weeks looks nothing like that squad. The Broncos are 6-9, likely headed to 6-10, and we're left to wonder how it all collapsed so quickly, and how it can be fixed.

Game Balls:
* Phillip Lindsay.
This is more for his season than a game in which he was injured after 46 yards on 10 carries. Get well soon Lindsay!
*DaeSean Hamilton and Courtland Sutton. In a losing effort both rookie receivers caught six balls and a touchdown.

Lingering Questions:
* How does this get fixed?
Joseph has to be gone, and if he's not many fans surely will be. At one point I thought he might have saved his job, but the last three weeks showed that sign of improvement was simply a mirage. There are many off-season questions, but coach and quarterback have to be the top two on the list.
