Here's a look at the new movie I saw this week.

Avengers: Endgame
Starring:
Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Brie Larson, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Josh Brolin, Karan Gillan, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Danai Gurira, Evangeline Lilly, and Tessa Thompson
Synopsis: You see that paragraph up above, that doesn't even really include all the names of people in this film. Essentially, anyone who was ever in any Marvel Cinematic Universe film was in this film in some way. For the most part anyway. That's why it's over three hours long. But it's the capstone to an endeavor that began in May 2008 and spans an impressive 22 films. It's an inter-locking mythology that came to a conclusion with this highly anticipated film. The movie broke Box Office records, kicked off the summer movie season, and figures to dominate the Box Office for weeks to come. And with good reasons. Last April's "Avengers: Infinity War" was one of the most popular films of 2018, and left people hanging. Now, a year later, we get answers, and the end of an era for the MCU. I won't give away any of the plot details here. Suffice to say this film picks up just where the last one left off, and features a conclusion to the Avengers fight with Thanos (Brolin). There was a lot of pressure here, and in the interest of full disclosure I didn't love "Infinity War," largely because of its last act. So I was curious to see how this would all come together in the end. But it did come together, and it did so in a great way. I know that some didn't love this film, and I get it. But for all that needed to be done, and all the weight of 21 previous films on its shoulders, I thought this was a pretty epic accomplishment. It's the end of the line for some, as has long been expected. But it is a film that had some really fun moments, some humor, some great action sequences, and a lot of heart. As I predicted, there were tears—for myself and many others. I thought the filmmakers handled a difficult task beautifully, and I will certainly remember this phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe fondly. There were so many touching moments and nods to all that's come before, and this one wrapped up the story for some while setting up the next adventure. And it was a heck of a lot of fun along the way. That's a credit to this group of heroes—especially Ruffalo, Renner, Johansson, Evans, Hemsworth and Downey, Jr.—who were the original Avengers and the Russo brothers, who've really brought this epic to a finish. This is one of the best movies of the year, and one not to be missed!
Rating: PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and some language.
Verdict: Four stars out of four.
