2019 Broncos' Season, Pre-Season Week 3

Pre-Season Week 3: Los Angeles Rams 10, Broncos 6
Pre-Season Record: 1–3 (0–1 Home)
Key Play: In the fourth quarter, with the Broncos leading 6–3, Rams quarterback John Wolford connected with Jalen Greene on a four-yard TD pass, giving the Rams a 10–6 lead.

Recap: The third week of the pre-season is usually a time when you see the regular season dress rehearsal. Whether it’s because it’s the Broncos’ fourth pre-season game, or the injuries piling up, this week’s game was anything but a dress rehearsal. No starters or even those locked into roster spots played. Instead, this was a game — as will be Thursday — where those playing for jobs got to show what they can do. The Broncos didn’t even get to see rookie QB Drew Lock, who has a thumb injury, or rookie TE Noah Fant, who has a foot sprain. Instead, Kevin Hogan started and tried to show that he has what it takes to be a backup in Denver. And then fans got to see Brett Rypien, the other rookie QB. Both looked good at times and struggled at times, as has seemingly been the case. Denver’s defense looked good at times and struggled at times, too. Overall it was a very vanilla and somewhat efficient game, one that saw the Broncos drop their third straight this pre-season. The final pre-season game is Thursday, the final roster cut down is on Saturday and by next Sunday we’ll know who will be on this team. That’s what fans are looking forward to now — games that count with schemes that matter.

Game Balls:
* Troy Fumagali and Jake Butt
. The young tight ends played, and played pretty well. Butt caught two passes for 17 yards and Fumagali caught five passes for 44 yards.
* Juwann Winfree. Winfree continues to make a case for being on the roster with a reception for 19 yards and a good Special Teams play.
* Justin Hollins. The rookie played every defensive snap, recording eight tackles and five solo stops.

Lingering Questions:
* Backup quarterback.
Right now, it’s hard to feel great about Hogan. I think the Broncos will have to hit the waiver wire.
* Special Teams. I thought River Cracraft would lock down the return slot. He hasn’t. There are now plenty of questions for the Broncos.
