2019 Broncos' Season, Roster Predictions

As I will each week of the pre-season, I'm going to make predictions for who could make the final 53 for the Broncos. This week, the pre-season game didn't tell us much, and the injuries are piling up. All of that makes for a more difficult process, but let's give it a go.

Quarterback: (3)
* Joe Flacco
* Kevin Hogan
* Drew Lock
About:
There has been little that we've seen in the pre-season that suggests Denver would be comfortable keeping two QBs with Lock as the sole backup. That could change, but for now it seems like we're locked in with this group and possibly Brett Rypien going to the Practice Squad.

Running Backs: (4)
* Royce Freeman
* Phillip Lindsay
* Devontae Booker
* Theo Riddick
About:
This is a tough group since Riddick has a broken shoulder, and will miss 6-8 weeks. The reports mentioned he'd have to be on the active roster before going on IR designated to return, so I've kept him on the active here. Andy Janovich has a pectoral injury that will keep him out 6-8 weeks. He could be on the active roster, but I think he may begin on PUP. So I'm guessing PUP here, for now.

Wide Receivers: (6)
* Emmanuel Sanders
*Courtland Sutton
*DaeSean Hamilton
* Tim Patrick
* River Cracraft
* Juwann Winfree
About:
I'm making no changes here for now. The game Thursday didn't really change much. I feel like the top four are set, and the bottom two could be in flux. For now, I'm sticking with Cracraft and Winfree. Nick Williams is one to watch.

Tight End: (4)
* Jeff Heuerman
* Noah Fant
* Jake Butt
* Troy Fumagali
About:
Another group where injuries are playing a role, both in terms of the people available in this position group and other groups creating need. Injuries at running back and fullback mean extra tight ends might be a must. Austin Fort is out, so I think that's good news for Butt, who is finally back practicing.

Offensive Line: (9)
* Ron Leary
* Ju'Wuan James
* Dalton Risner
* Conner McGovern
* Garrett Bolles
* Elijah Wilkinson
* Andreas Knappe
* Don Barclay
* Sam Jones
About:
The starting five here is set, it's all about reserves. Wilkinson feels like a lock, too. The group in the second and third unit wasn't great on Thursday. Barclay moves up here because he got the start, meaning he's likely ahead of some others. I think the Broncos also like Knappe and Jones, so they're getting the nod, for now. This will be a fluid group moving forward.

Defensive Line: (5)
* Derek Wolfe
* Adam Gotsis
* Shelby Harris
* Zach Kerr
* Dre'Mont Jones
About:
I think DeMarcus Walker is the odd man out here, and with injuries this is a thin group. I think the Broncos will keep an extra linebacker, and some of our bigger pass rushing linebackers will help fill the void here. It seems odd to go with five, but that's my thinking.

Linebacker: (10)
* Von Miller

* Bradley Chubb
* Todd Davis
* Josey Jewell
* Jeff Holland
* Dekoda Watson
* Justin Hollins
* Alexander Johnson
* Malik Reed
* Keishawn Bierria
About:
With this group it's all about flexibility. Many in this group have played a bunch of positions, and several are key Special Teams contributors. I think that we have a lot of good options here, so we'll keep extra and plug and play in the defense.

Secondary: (9)
* Chris Harris, Jr.
* Bryce Callahan
* Justin Simmons
* Kareem Jackson
* De'Vante Busby
* Isaac Yiadom
* Will Parks
* Su'a Cravens
* Shamarko Thomas
About:
No change from last week, I think the Broncos have a lot of depth here, too, and players that can play in many different positions. There will be some tough cuts among our young safeties.

Special Teams: (3)
* Brandon McManus
* Colby Wadman
* Casey Kreiter
About:
No change here, this group is pretty well locked.
