2019 Broncos' Season, Roster Projection

With the Broncos nearing the end of the pre-season, it's time to make roster projections again. Below is my current best guess on the 53. We'll know more after Thursday's final pre-season game, then cuts will be made next Saturday.

Quarterback: (3)
* Joe Flacco
* Drew Lock
* Kevin Hogan
About:
I think the Broncos will have a 53-man roster, then they will make some big waiver moves. So put a pin in a couple positions, including this one. Lock isn't going to be ready Week 1, and could even end up on IR Designated to Return. But he has to make the 53-man roster first. And Hogan hasn't looked good as a back up, so don't be surprised if Denver makes a move here.

Running Backs (5)
* Phillip Lindsay
* Royce Freeman
* Devontae Booker
* Theo Riddick
* Andy Janovich
About:
Riddick and Janovich are hurt, and will miss several weeks. I believe one or both will land on IR or PUP, but they have to make the squad first. So I think they do then the Broncos make adjustments. I don't think any of the other backs on the roster made a huge impression, but George Aston could come back to play fullback for a bit post IR moves.

Wide Receivers: (5)
* Emmanuel Sanders

* Courtland Sutton
* DaeSean Hamilton
* Tim Patrick
* Juwann Winfree
About:
Sanders is healthy, and that makes a difference here. That and none of the receivers has really distinguished themselves, including River Cracraft as a returner. I think the Broncos will find a returner via waivers here.

Tight Ends: (4)
* Jeff Heuerman
* Noah Fant
* Jake Butt

* Troy Fumagali
About:
Fant and Heuerman are dinged, but Butt and Fumagali are back healthy. Given the dearth of receivers that stood out and the Janovich injury, it makes sense to keep four in this group. And all can contribute.

Offensive Linemen: (9)
* Garrett Bolles
* Conner McGovern
* Ron Leary
* Dalton Risner

* Ju'Wann James
* Elijah Wilkinson
* Austin Schlottman
* Don Barclay
* Jake Rodgers
About:
This is a tough group to call at the end of the roster. The top seven feel pretty set to me, the others I was going on feel based on rotations. Nothing would totally surprise me here.

Defensive Line: (6)
* Derek Wolfe
* Adam Gotsis
* Shelby Harris
* Dre'Mont Jones
* Zach Kerr
* DeShawn Williams
About:
Another tough group to gauge at the end, but I went with Williams, who has looked solid and can play the middle. The top five feel like locks. Thursday could change the end of this group.

Linebackers: (10)
* Von Miller
* Bradley Chubb
* Todd Davis
* Josey Jewell
* Malik Reed
* Dekota Watson
* Justin Hollins
* Keishawn Bierria
* Joe Jones
* Alexander Johnson
About:
I think the Broncos keep 10 here, as they did in 2018, because of Special Teams. Jones is hurt, but he's been a big contributor to Special Teams. The rest give them depth and flexibility.

Defensive Backs: (8)
* Chris Harris, Jr.
* Bryce Callahan
* Isaac Yiadom
* DeVante Bausby
* Kareem Jackson
* Justin Simmons
* Will Parks
* Su'a Cravens
About:
This is the top of a deep group. At times I've kept a ninth player here, but the numbers tell me that's going to be tough. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring some of their depth back to the Practice Squad when needed.

Special Teams: (3)
* Brandon McManus
* Colby Wadman
* Casey Kreiter
About:
No changes here, this is a group that feels like it's been set for a while.
