2019 Broncos' Season, Week 2

Week 2: Chicago Bears 16, Broncos 14
Season Record: 0-2 (0-1 Home)
Key Play: Trailing 14-13 with nine seconds left, Mitch Trubisky scrambled and was able to connect with Allen Robinson on a 25-yard pass and get a time out with one second left. That set up a game-winning 53-yard field goal from Eddie Pinero to give the Bears a win.

Recap: Pardon me while I wipe a tear away... that was rough Broncos friends. Every time I think we've endured our hardest loss, something else comes along. And for much of yesterday, I thought the Broncos would lose. In fact, I picked the Bears. But, then, with 31-seconds left we were given hope. Joe Flacco connected with Emmanuel Sanders on a seven-yard touchdown pass to make it 13-12. Then they went for two, and Flacco hit Sanders again to give the Broncos a 14-13 lead. Then the defense held for three plays. But on that fourth play, they let a long gain and the Bears were gifted a second to be able to attempt a field goal. Of course it hit, and the air came out of the balloon. But it's not like the Broncos impressed in the game. They struggled mightily at times. Through two games the Broncos have no sacks and no turnovers, and the offensive line looks possibly worse than it did last year. Those are all concerns that aren't going away. And for now, the Broncos are 0-2, which statistically says the hope for the post-season is over. Now, I know the playoffs were a longshot anyway. But it's tough to be sitting here on September 16 knowing it's over. And with the team traveling to Green Bay on Sunday, it's fair to wonder when we might see our first win. So, yeah, tough day all around for the Broncos.

Game Balls:
* Emmanuel Sanders
. Sanders caught 11 balls for 98 yards and a touchdown. He continues to show no ill effects from last season's injury and is looking like the Broncos' best player.
* Royce Freeman. Freeman carried 11 times for 54 yards and caught five passes for 48 yards. He looked strong and is on his way to having a great sophomore season.

Lingering Concerns:
* Offensive Line
. Garrett Bolles struggled mightily yesterday, but he wasn't the only one. The Broncos need better blocking up front, and they need to show some signs of improvement quickly.
* Defensive Big Plays. The Broncos haven't gotten a sack or a turnover in the first two weeks. They need to reverse that trend and start getting some big plays to disrupt the other team and get the whole thing going. That will become more key as they face better offenses in the Packers, Chargers and Chiefs in the coming weeks.
