2019 Broncos' Season, Week 8

Week 8: Indianapolis Colts 15, Broncos 13
Season Record: 2-6 (1-3 Home)
Key Play: In the fourth quarter, with time running down, Jacoby Brissett was nearly sacked by Von Miller but escaped his grasp and fired a 35-yard pass to TY Hilton for a long first down. It led to a last-minute, 51-yard field goal from Adam Vinatieri to give the Colts the 15-13 lead, and the win.

Recap: The Broncos seem to find new heart-breaking ways to lose. On Sunday, the team looked competitive and actually led until there was less than a minute left in the game, then the wheels came off the bus. The defense couldn't hold at the end, and Vinatieri hit another 50-plus yard field goal. He missed one field goal and an extra point, but in the clutch he nailed it. And it was the Broncos' third loss this season that happened thanks to a field goal at the last second. And after the game, Joe Flacco let the coaches have it. He hasn't played great, but it's fair to wonder if the play calling is a part of that, too. Either way, the Broncos are 2-6 and face some tough choices. Jeff Heuerman was injured during the game, and the Broncos are weighing who to bring back off IR. Jake Butt, Tim Patrick and Drew Lock are leading candidates. Only two can come back. It's fair to wonder which two it will be. In addition, I was kind of bummed we saw nothing from DaeSean Hamilton. I thought with Emmanuel Sanders in San Francisco, Hamilton would get some more targets. Diontae Spencer and Fred Brown had some good plays, but we also didn't get a look at Juwann Winfree, so there is some intrigue moving forward. But Noah Fant was more involved, which is good. And Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay looked solid at times. The Broncos' defense was good most all day, too, against a tough Colts' offense on the road. The Broncos are the best 2-6 team in the league, but they're still 2-6.

Game Balls:
* Von Miller.
Miller had 1.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for a loss. He looked solid.
* Courtland Sutton. He had three catches for 72 yards and was the best part of the pass offense as he's been all season.

Lingering Questions:
* Injuries.
The big off-season signings of Bryce Callahan and Ju'Wan James are looking like busts. James can't stay on the field and Callahan can't get on the field.
* Returning Players. Who will the Broncos bring back. If it's Patrick and Butt, I guess it makes sense. But it's time to see Drew Lock and see what he can do so we have information moving into the next draft.
