Upcoming Releases, November 2019

Here's a look at everything that's coming in November, and it's a lot. This month, for the first time, I'm going to be chronicling bit Streaming Site releases. We are seeing more and more of these, and they're even working their way into the Oscar conversation. Some those are becoming a part of the consideration for those looking at their cinematic options each month.

Friday, November 1:
Harriet:
This biopic stars Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman. The trailer looks great, and Erivo has produced some solid performances in tough roles in the past few years. This could be an award season contender.

Terminator: Dark Fate: This sequel is really meant to pick up after the events of "T2: Judgement Day," and ignore all the other sequels, even the ones with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He's in this one, as is Linda Hamilton, and it looks positively dull and unnecessary to me.

Motherless Brooklyn: This drama stars Edward Norton, who also directs. People have compared it to "LA Confidential," which feels like high praise. It follows a private detective in New York in 1954, and looks pretty good.

Artic Dogs: One for the kids! Considering we're just emerging from a deep freeze here in Colorado, this feels apt. It looks like a fun, family-friendly seasonal tale.

American Son (Netflix): This streaming release stars Kerry Washington in a racially charged story based on the stage play. It looks plenty dramatic.

Holiday in the Wild (Netflix): 'Tis the season, and Netflix is jumping in with an original romantic comedy starring Kristen Davis and Rob Lowe set in Africa. For those itching for a holiday film, here's one streaming right into your living room.

Friday, November 8:
Last Christmas:
This film comes from Emma Thompson and is titled after the famous George Michael song, which inspired it. The film is a sort of tribute to him, and is the first big screen holiday release. This one is led by Mother of Dragons herself, Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. It looks festive.

Midway: Roland Emmerich takes on a classic World War II saga in this re-make, which begins with Pearl Harbor and follows the events leading up to the classic battle from which the film draws its name. Released to coincide with Veterans Day weekend.

Doctor Sleep: Ewan McGreggor takes the lead in this adaptation of the Stephen King novel that is a sequel to the classic horror tale "The Shinning."

Playing With Fire: John Cena brings his unique brand of comedy to this tale, starring as a firefighter. This looks like fun for the whole family.

Primal: An action film in 2019 starring Nicholas Cage as an illegal animal smuggler. Need I saw more?

Racetime: This animated tale takes place around a sled race, making it the second wintry-themed animated release in as many weeks.

Let It Snow (Netflix): Another holiday film from Netflix, this one about a group of high school seniors trapped during a Christmas Eve snowstorm.

Tuesday, November 12:
Noelle (Disney+):
Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader star as brother and sister, the offspring of Santa Clause, in this new original Christmas film on Disney+

Friday, November 15:
Ford vs. Ferrari:
This one is a biopic about the Shelby Ford that competed at Le Mans. It stars Matt Damon and Christian Bale, looks like fun and is surely an award contender.

Charlie's Angels: Elizabeth Banks stars in front of and behind the camera in this re-make, with a trio of leading ladies led by Kristen Stewart. Expect some action sequences.

The Good Liar: A thriller featuring Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen at odds. The acting ought to be pretty top notch.

The Report: This biopic features Adam Driver as a CIA Agent looking into the scope of the U.S. policy and practice on "enhanced interrogation." Happy Thanksgiving all.

All Rise: This film follows Steve (Kelvin Harrison Jr. ), a 17-year-old honors student and aspiring filmmaker in Harlem, who is being charged with felony murder for a crime he says he didn't commit.

Earthquake Bird (Netflix): A new thriller from producer Ridley Scott starring Alicia Vikander.

Klaus (Netflix): Netflix offers a third straight week of season fun with this animated feature that boasts a voice cast that includes J.K. Simmons, Joan Cusack and Rasida Jones.

Thursday, November 21:
The Knight Before Christmas (Netflix):
A delf-explanatory holiday movie about a time-traveling medieval knight who falls in love with a high school teacher in 2019 Ohio that stars Emmanuelle Chriqui, Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Whitehouse.

Friday, November 22:
Frozen 2:
This is the sequel that kids have been waiting for and parents have been dreading. Expect more earworms to be stuck in your head for weeks on end. This will also likely be one of the biggest films of the month.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: Tom Hanks stars as Fred Rogers in the scripted film that will be as beautiful and emotionally riveting as the documentary from 2018.

21 Bridges: Chadwick Boseman takes the lead in this action film as a cop trying to hunt down a crew that killed a bunch of other cops. And, naturally, there's more than meets the eye here.

Wednesday, November 27:
Knives Out:
Rian Johnson moves away from "Star Wars" and into family wars with a star-studded cast in this family whodunit. If Thanksgiving gets to be too much, head out to a film about a family murder!

Queen and Slim: This racially charged, politically charged tale is about a modern Bonnie and Clyde that go on the run after an incident with a cop turns violent.

The Irishman (Netflix): Martin Scorsese brings his talent to Netflix with a tale starring Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro that is already being talked about as an Oscar contender.

Friday, November 29:
Dark Waters:
Inspired by a true story, Mark Ruffalo stars as an attorney that discovers some potential dark deeds by a big corporation that could be contaminating a town's water supply and making residents sick. Can he fight the money and the power to get justice for the town? That's the point of the film, which hits close to home and should be a film in the award conversation.
