Fall TV Roundup, Week 12

We're in Thanksgiving Week, and while the networks are given over to re-runs and holiday specials, or shows wrapping up their run. But the streaming sites are still going strong with new content. In these weekly posts I look at the pilot and second episode of new scripted series this Fall. Don't see a new show listed below? Check previous weeks.

Streaming Series:
The Feed, Now Streaming on Amazon Prime (Premiered November 22)
About:
This new series from Amazon is based on the novel from Nick Clark Windo, and is set in an alternate future where the technology exists to embed the Internet in the head of people. When something starts to go wrong (I mean, how could an idea like this go wrong...), the family that leads the company that created The Feed spirals. This is a show with a decent cast, led be David Thewlis and Michelle Fairley, that has a somewhat interesting premise. I just wasn't totally sucked into this premise and the execution. This was OK, but not great. For fans of the novel, it might be fun to see this story come to life.
Pilot Grade: C
Second Episode: C

Dolly Parton's Heartstrings, Now Streaming on Netflix (Premiered November 22)
About:
This eight-episode series comes from Parton's music. Each episode in this anthology series is based on one of her songs. Parton herself provides an introduction that tells about the story behind the song, and how it is going to relate to the episode. Each episode is about an hour, or a little over. And there's an all-star cast to help sell it. The pilot focuses on "Jolene," arguably her most famous song. I also watched the third episode, based on the song "If I Had Wings." I'd say based on my sample many of the episodes are designed to, in fact, tug at your heartstrings. If you're a fan of her music, than this will be a pretty exciting venture. If not, you may or may not be drawn into the stories based on the action and the cast. I am more in the latter category, though I liked "If I Had Wings" more than the first one. Either way, this is a bit swing that works OK for Netflix.
Pilot Grade: C
Third Episode: B-

The Accident, Now Streaming on Hulu (Premiered November 22)
About:
This four-episode limited series is British, brought to the United States by Hulu. It focuses on a small British town where an accident at a factor claims the lives of many teens that had snuck in. Most of that takes place in the first episode, and the rest of the series is about the aftermath. I thought the pilot was OK, but I wasn't really taken with the story or where it was going. But if you're looking for a piece of English drama, this is available and is a quick watch, as each episode is about 47 minutes.
Pilot Grade: C-
