2019 Broncos' Season, Week 16

Week 16: Broncos 27, Detroit Lions 17
Season Record: 6-9 (4-3 Home)
Key Play: In the fourth quarter, trailing 17-13, Drew Lock connected with DaeSean Hamilton on a three yard shovel pass for a touchdown, giving the Broncos a 20-17 lead. They added another score from Phillip Lindsay to win their sixth game of the season.

Recap: After a struggle in Kansas City in the snow in Week 15, rookie Drew Lock and the Broncos' offense looked better, as expected, against the Lions at home this week. Lock is now 3-1 as a starter, and though the team was missing a lot of pieces on the offensive and defensive lines, they pulled out a solid home victory. Lock has been everything Broncos fans could hope. He's not been perfect, but he's growing and the offense is growing with him. This is a lost season, another lost season for Denver in a string of them. And yet, the future feels brighter somehow this year. If the Broncos can upend the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, they could finish 7-9, push for second in the division and have some confidence and spark heading into 2020. And for the first time in a while, stability seems the better part of valor. The Broncos need to re-sign a few key pieces, have another strong draft and make some more prudent free agent moves. And this time next year, this team could be battling for the playoffs and thinking about a title. That's what I'd like to see, it's what John Elway would like to see, and it's what we'd like for Von Miller before he calls it a career.

Game Balls:
* Phillip Lindsay.
Lindsay had one of his better games of the year as he closes in on 1,000 for the second consecutive season. He ran for 109 yards and a touchdown, adding nine yards on two catches.
* DaeSean Hamilton. Hamilton had his finest game of the season, catching six passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. It has been a tough year for Hamilton, who seemed the forgotten man in his second campaign. But with Lock he's come to life of late, another positive sign for 2020.
* Dre'Mont Jones. Jones, the rookie defensive lineman, returned from injury and recorded two tackles for a loss and two sacks. The draft class for 2019 hasn't been as celebrated as last year, but it's produced some good talent on both sides of the ball. I like Jones for the future.
