2020 Broncos' Season, Free Agency Frenzy

We're a few days into Free Agency, and it's a chance to look and see what the Broncos have done so far in a fast and furious torrent as the new league year begins.

Free Agent Signings:
* Graham Glasgow G/C four years, $44 million—Glasgow, formerly of Detroit, is a solid signing that fills a need. The Broncos let right guard Ron Leary go, and Glasgow should fill that hole nicely. He could also slide over to center if the Broncos find another guard after Conner McGovern left to sign with the Jets. Glasgow has also been durable in his career, a trait the Broncos could sorely use with their offensive line.

* Jeff Driskel QB two years, $5 million—The Broncos need a backup quarterback. It seems like Brandon Allen will move on, and the team moved on from Joe Flacco, releasing him on Thursday. Driskel has been a solid performer for Cincinnati and Detroit, and now he'll be here to provide some depth behind Drew Lock. The Broncos also brought back Brett Rypien, so they head into the rest of the off-season with a bit of clarity at the position.

Trades:
* A.J. Bouye CB acquired from Jacksonville for a Fourth Round Pick
. This trade was done a few weeks ago, but became official on Wednesday. Bouye is a stout cover corner who can slot in as the top option for the Broncos. And he comes with a couple years left on a reasonable contract and came fairly cheaply.

* Jurrell Casey DL acquired from Tennessee for a Seventh Round Pick. On Wednesday, the Broncos sent fullback Andy Janovich to the Browns for a seventh round pick. They turned around on Thursday and sent a seventh round pick to Tennessee for Casey. Casey, a nine year veteran, has missed only five games in his career and has amassed 51 sacks. He's a force on the line, and he came at a low price to acquire. This gives the Broncos a solid force at defensive end, and with Mike Purcell retained, the makings of a strong line combined with Dre'Mont Jones, who should take a step up in year two.

Departures:
* Joe Flacco QB, released.

* Andy Janovich FB, traded to Cleveland for a seventh round pick.

* Conner McGovern C/G three years, $27 million to the Jets. I'm disappointed to lose McGovern, who was very solid last season at center. Hopefully the Broncos can patch it over without missing a beat.

* Chris Harris, Jr. CB two years, $17 million to the Chargers. This one hurts. He was one of my favorite players, and he goes to a division rival on a deal that is a head-scratcher in terms of money. Makes me wonder why the Broncos didn't inquire since his price came down. I wish him the best, and he'll be missed.

What's Next:
The Broncos still have plenty of needs. They could use more weapons on offense, especially at receiver, and need more help on the offensive and defensive line. The team needs to keep filling out its secondary, and I think it wouldn't hurt to add some depth/competition at inside linebacker. So who might the team target? Here's a few considerations:

* P.J. Walker QB—It came up this morning the Broncos have inquired about Walker. It doesn't make total sense after the Driskel signing, but Walker looked great and he'd be a weapon.

* Prince Amukamara CB—The former Bear worked with Vic Fangio and doesn't figure to break the bank. He's long been rumored as possibly coming here, and I think the Broncos should lock it up.

* Derek Wolfe DE—Wolfe has been a long-time stalwart for the Broncos and remains unsigned. I like Dre'Mont Jones, but I think signing Wolfe to a cap-friendly deal and starting him alongside Casey and Purcell with Jones in the rotation would be a great way for the Broncos to dominate up front.

* Dion Lewis or Chris Thompson RBs—Last year the Broncos tried to grab Theo Riddick as a cheap receiving back option. It didn't work out. While some have tried to link high profile, expensive backs to Denver, I think a cheap one-year deal for one of these guys might be the way to go. After all, Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman could easily tote the water for another year if needed.
