2020 Rookie Rankings, QBs

The 2020 Draft is in the books, and in the wake of the draft it's time to look at where these rookies sit as we prepare for dynasty drafts. Over the next few weeks I'll be looking at my post-draft rookie rankings by position. Today I'm beginning with quarterbacks.

This is an interesting position because there is really a couple tiers: the Top Three who seem like solid bets to get playing time soon, and the rest who are all waiting for a clear opportunity to emerge. And that's what really sets these rankings. Even some of those who seemed like solid bets pre-draft are now stuck in a tough spot due to where they landed. So, without further ado, here's my Top 10 post draft.

1. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins: Tua was probably the most talented quarterback going into the draft, and him going fifth to Miami vaulted him to the top for me. I like his talent, and I think the draft capital here answers some of the health questions. Plus, I like the way Miami is trending, and think they might be a better organization than the Cincinnati Bengals. It's close, but I went Tua.

2. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals: Burrow was the top pick in the draft, and went where we all expected. He'll be the starter, especially with the Bengals releasing Dalton. So it's a solid pick, and one that will return starting potential from Day 1.

3. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers: Herbert landed in a solid spot and will be the starter sooner rather than later. The Chargers didn't move on from Phillip Rivers to turn it over to Tyrod Taylor long-term. But he probably won't start Week 1. Still, this is the end of the tier of known quantities at the position for the 2020 draft.

4. Jacob Eason, Indianapolis Colts: As we move to the rest of the Top 10, it's about potential opportunity. Eason likely has none in his rookie year. The Colts still have Jacoby Brissett and signed Rivers to a $25 million deal for 2020. So Eason is likely third string at best. But Brissett and Rivers each only have one year contracts, so Eason could be poised for a big jump in 2021.

5. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles: Hurts is another interesting player that landed in an interesting spot. Carson Wentz is the starter in Philly, but he's had a somewhat checkered history in recent years when it comes to injuries. So Hurts is a hedge that could end up playing sooner than we realize, and he also figures to get some offensive packages either way.

6. Cole McDonald, Tennessee Titans: The big-armed QB from Hawaii lands in a good spot. Marcus Mariota is with the Raiders, so McDonald has a good shot at the No. 2 position behind Ryan Tannehill, another starter who has struggled many times with injuries. McDonald could also be poised to get a shot at being a long-term answer.

7. Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers: I like the player, I like the talent, and I like the team he's on. But this is hardly an ideal fit. Aaron Rodgers is a top quarterback, and probable Hall of Fame player. He's also under contract through 2023. So Love could sit for four years, or the Packers could force Rodgers out, creating an ugly situation and a lot of pressure for Love. So, he drops a bit.

8. Nate Stanley, Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins is in Minnesota, and signed an extension. But Stanley is likely the No. 2 and will have a chance to get in there should anything happen. So, like many of the names on the end of this list, it's about potential opportunity.

9. Jake Fromm, Buffalo Bills: Fromm was a controversial prospect following the Combine, and he lands in a spot with an entrenched young starter in Josh Allen. But Fromm has opportunity IF he earns the backup slot. That's not a certainty. Still, in this group, it's enough to get him here.

10. James Morgan, New York Jets: Morgan is possibly an unlikely candidate to land here, and with Sam Darnold there he's competing for No. 2. But the Jets had injuries that led to three QBs playing in 2019, so, again, it's about opportunity.
