Broncos' 2020 Season, Running Backs

Now that the draft is over, and while we have some time to fill before teams come back, it's time to once again look at the positional units the Broncos have assembled for 2020. Today I'm wrapping up with the running back group.

Running Backs:
On the Roster:
Melvin Gordon, Phillip Lindsay, Royce Freeman, Khalfani Muhammad, Jeremy Cox, And LeVante Bellamy

About: This is a group that became more clear this off-season. Last year the Broncos kept three running backs (Lindsay, Freeman and Devontae Booker) and a full back (Andy Janovich). The team let Booker go in free agency, and he signed with the Raiders. Meanwhile the Broncos dealt Janovich to the Browns. But they also added Gordon in free agency, so now it seems like it will be Gordon and Lindsay sharing the load with Freeman as a "spare." Will the Broncos keep a fourth running back? In the past few years they've been happy to roll with three and a full back, who contributed on Special Teams. That's the real challenge here, will another back be kept. If so, I'd wager they'll have to be a Special Teams contributor. A strong candidate is Muhammad, who I also think would be the RB3 if the Broncos find a trade partner for Freeman. Otherwise, Muhammad and Bellamy would certainly seem like candidates for the Practice Squad, which might be the way they go to keep other players, and Special Teams contributors, at other positions. An injury, of course, could change the course here, too.

Early Roster Projection: I think the Broncos go with three, and it is Gordon, Lindsay and Freeman.
