Broncos' 2020 Season, Wide Receivers



Now that the draft is over, and while we have some time to fill before teams come back, it's time to once again look at the positional units the Broncos have assembled for 2020. Today I'm continuing with the wide receiver group.

Wide Receivers
On the Roster: Courtland Sutton, K.J. Hamler, Jerry Jeudy, DaeSean Hamilton, Tim Patrick, Trinity Benson, Fred Brown, Diontae Spencer, Juwann Winfree, Kelvin McKnight, Tyrie Cleveland, Kendall Hinton, and Zimari Manning

About: This is going to be an interesting and exciting group to watch in 2020. Sutton is great, and has really been coming on. In his second year, despite a tough offensive season for the team, Sutton caught 72 passes for 1,112 yards and six TDs. I think he's a great No. 1 and I look forward to him growing this season. But beyond him, in terms of receivers, the Broncos didn't have a lot going for them in 2019. That's why the team went and loaded up in the draft, taking Jeudy in the first round and Hamler in the second round. They also grabbed Cleveland in the seventh round and grabbed some UFAs, like Manning. And Hamilton, Patrick, Spencer and Winfree are all returning. So there's some people here that can fill out the roster, but the question is who steps up behind Sutton to help this passing game pick up steam. I was excited when Hamilton was drafted, but he didn't step up much in year two. Perhaps increased competition and a new scheme will help. Ditto for Patrick, who has shown some flashes but hasn't developed consistency. Meanwhile Jeudy and Hamler figure to be contributors right away, or at least that's what the Broncos are hoping. So the question is how many they keep at the position and who makes the final cut. I think the Broncos probably keep six, and the question becomes whether they need a specialist to return kicks. Spencer proved an apt return man last season, but there's potential Hamler could return kicks as well. This is going to be a position group with some tough cuts, and it will be hard to project until we see some rehearsal and game action.

Early Roster Prediction: I think Sutton, Jeudy and Hamler are locks. I also think the Broncos will end up keeping Hamilton and Patrick. Additionally, I think the final spot will go to Spencer, who figures to be the returner this season while they focus on using Hamler on offense.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
