2020 Broncos' Season, Training Camp Notes

It was a relatively quiet week for the Broncos at Training Camp. There are just a couple big headlines to look at. Padded practices begin this week, so I'll be making a revised prediction on the final roster in next week's round up. But this week, here's a couple things we've learned.

1. The Broncos Signed Demar Dotson
This was seemingly in the works when I did my weekly check in last Monday, but it became official over the week. Dotson brings plenty of experience as a starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While Garrett Bolles and Elijah Wilkinson figure to be penciled in at starting tackles right now, Dotson gives a strong veteran option, and I wouldn't be surprised if he moved in at right tackle and Wilkinson went back to the swing tackle position. Either way, the Broncos quickly moved to strengthen a position that took a bit of a hit when Ja'Wuan James opted out. The Broncos boosted their skill position groups and have invested in the success of Drew Lock in year two, but having a solid line is a big part of that coming to fruition. I like the move and what it could mean for Denver.

2. Jake Butt is looking good
This is exciting and interesting. Butt was on track to be a top tight end prospect before he got hurt to end his college career. The Broncos took a chance on him anyway, getting him in the Fifth Round as a big injury discount in the 2017 draft. But to this point, the team has little to show for the investment. He played in three games in 2018, catching eight passes for 85 yards. That's his entire three-year NFL career. In the time since, the Broncos have added a lot to the group, including stud starter Noah Fant, veteran Nick Vannett and rookie Albert Okweugbanum. So Butt figured to be a long-shot to make the final roster. But with him looking like the receiver the Broncos drafted in 2017, it's possible that tight end, not receiver, becomes the hottest group among Broncos receivers.
