Here's a look at the new movies I saw this week.

Enola Holmes (Netflix)
Starring
: Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Sam Claflin, and Helena Bonham-Carter
Synopsis: This latest film, based on a novel, points the action at Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes' younger sister, Enola (Brown). She's like Sherlock in her penchant for solving crimes, and getting into trouble. She's mostly lived a quiet life with her mother (Bonham-Carter), while her older brothers were off making names for themselves. When their mother goes missing, Sherlock (Cavill) and Mycroft (Claflin) show up to settle things, but it isn't much to Enola's liking. Instead, she uses the clues her mother left for her to set out on her own and discover what happened, getting pulled into another case along the way. Can she find her mother and stay out of trouble? That's the challenge. This film has a good cast and a fun format. I liked Brown in "Stranger Things," and it's fun to see her stretch herself with a different kind of role in this film. Cavill and Claflin do a nice job as well, as does Bonham-Carter. I particularly enjoyed the rapport between Brown and Cavill, and I could see this leading to more films down the road. I'd be interested in seeing that, too. For now, I thought this was a good addition to the Netflix library.
Rating: PG-13 for some violence.
Verdict: Three stars out of four.

Secret Society of Second Born Royals (Disney+)
Starring
: Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Skylar Astin, and Elodie Yung
Synopsis: This new addition to the Disney+ lineup starts as a film about young royals and feels like a typical young adult type film. It spins quickly forward to something else, as it turns out to be a hybrid superhero film of sorts. Lee is in the lead role as a young princess who feels out of place until this new opportunity, and new world of powers, comes along. Meanwhile Astin and Yung play supporting roles in this movie that has decent effects, a solid story and some fun humor. This isn't an epic film, but it works pretty well and I could see it becoming a decent and fun series for Disney.
Rating: TV-PG
Verdict: Two stars out of four.
