Championship Game Recap

The Championship Games are done and the Super Bowl is set. I picked the Bills and Packers to advance and, well, I guess I should have known better. But let's look at the Championship Games.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31, Green Bay Packers 26
Tom Brady does it again. The Buccaneers, the top Wild Card in the NFC, did it the hard way, winning three road games. First they beat the Washington Football Team, then their division rival Saints and then on Sunday they slipped past the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers threw for 346 yards and three TDs, but it wasn't enough. The Buccaneers forced a couple turnovers and, amazingly, survived three Brady interceptions to get the win. Then came the most curious decision. Trailing by eight points with 2:05 left in the game and facing Fourth-and-Goal at the 8, Matt LaFleur elected to kick a field goal. Predictably the Packers never saw the ball again. The Buccaneers have had a Cinderella run, and now they will be the first time in history to play the Super Bowl in their own home stadium. Facing the defending champion Chiefs is a tall order, but I'm not doubting it's within the realm of possibility for them to get it done again. For Rodgers, it will be a long off-season. He seemed despondent during the post-game press conference, so I'll be curious to see how this off-season goes, especially at the team took Jordan Love in the first round of the draft.

Kansas City Chiefs 38, Buffalo Bills 24
Another tough game for me as I wanted to see the Bills advance. They didn't look great and struggled at times, kicking field goals while the Chiefs scored touchdowns. This one wasn't as close as the final score, and it felt like it was over at half time when the Bills elected to kick a field goal instead of trying to score a touchdown. They felt like a team that was playing to keep the game close rather than playing to win, which was odd since they went for it on Fourth Down on the opening drive. It was a heck of a season for Josh Allen, and I think he and the Bills will be back. For the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes is great, he has great weapons in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, and he has a great coach in Andy Reid. They should rightly be favored in the Super Bowl in two weeks.
