2021 Broncos' Season, Week 1

Week 1: Denver Broncos 27, New York Giants 13
Season Record: 1-0 (0-0 Home)
Key Play: In the third quarter with the Broncos leading 10-7 after scoring a touchdown to close the first half, Teddy Bridgewater connected with tight end Albert Okwuegbunam on a four-yard pass for a touchdown to give the Broncos a 10-point lead. It capped a 16-play drive and solidified a lead the Giants couldn't overcome.

Recap: After an interesting off-season and Training Camp the Broncos finally hit the field for a game that counted. Bradley Chubb wasn't able to play, so his playing opposite Von Miller will have to wait for at least one more week. But the Broncos looked good on both sides of the ball and did something they haven't done since Vic Fangio became the Head Coach--they won a game in September. Teddy Bridgewater was solid and effective if not incredibly impressive. He threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns without producing a turnover. He could have had more but he and K.J. Hamler failed to connect on a deep ball. Hamler should have caught it but it was under-thrown. There were a couple other big plays that were near misses and Jerry Jeudy suffered a gruesome looking high ankle sprain that will cost him a few weeks. But overall, it was a successful first game. The running game also looked decent as rookie Javonte Williams and veteran Melvin Gordon split carries. Williams ran with power at times. Gordon was the beneficiary of a big broken play, running for 70 yards and a touchdown to crest over 100 yards on the day. Defensively the secondary had its moments but also allowed Sterling Shepherd to go for more than 100 yards and a touchdown. Miller looked strong in his return from injury, recording two sacks. And the Broncos largely held Saquon Barkley in check. Overall, it was a solid first game, something the Broncos can build on moving forward. And, it's nice to finally be 1-0 to start a season.

Game Balls:
* Von Miller
. The leader of the defense looked it Sunday as he harassed Daniel Jones and made his presence felt and came up with two sacks.
* Melvin Gordon. Gordon ripped off a big 70-yard TD run to finish with 101 yards rushing on the day.
* Teddy Bridgewater. He was solid, distributing the ball well and not turning it over en route to an Opening Day win.

Lingering Questions:
* Can the Broncos make the most of a soft opening schedule to position themselves for a playoff run?
* How will Jeudy's injury impact this offense moving forward?
