2022 Broncos' Season, Offensive Needs

With the coaching staff in place, it's time to look toward the reloading in the off-season. Free Agency begins on March 16, with the Draft following in April. In the run up, I'm going to be looking at the offense and defense, examining what the Broncos might need as the off-season period begins.

Quarterback
On the Roster:
Drew Lock
About: Quarterback is the biggest question for any successful team, and the Broncos are no different. Lock is the only quarterback under contract, entering his fourth and final year. The new coaches have spoken about him in terms that make it seem as if he'll get a shot to compete. That also makes me think the Broncos may grab an option in the draft, possibly with the No. 9 pick, though I think Round 2 makes more sense. Either way, the Broncos need to solidify this position.

Running Back
On the Roster
: Javonte Williams, Mike Boone, Damarea Crockett
About: Williams is a stud to build around but depth is a question. Also a question is whether the Broncos are willing to run with Williams as the man after years of platooning the position. Melvin Gordon is a free agent. He could be back, but I doubt it. I think the Broncos grab another cheap veteran to add to the mix and run with Williams as the man. Maybe it's just my hope.

Wide Receiver
On the Roster
: Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, DaeSean Hamiton, K.J. Hamler, Jerry Jeudy, Kendall Hinton, Seth Williams, Tyrie Cleveland, Travis Fulguham
About: This is one area where the Broncos don't have a need. They locked up Sutton and Patrick last season, Jeudy is in year three and Hamler and Hamilton will return from injury. The team also has plenty of young prospects. This is one of the bright spots on the offense.

Tight End
On the Roster
: Noah Fant, Albert Okwuegbunam, Shaun Beyer
About: This is another bright spot on offense. With Fant and Okwuegbunam, the Broncos have to great receiving options at tight end. Beyer is a depth piece but a big question is whether the Broncos will retain blocking tight end Andrew Beck, or perhaps draft a blocking tight end/full back. Much of that probably relies on the system that gets put in place.

Offensive Line
On the Roster
: Garrett Bolles, Graham Glasgow, Dalton Risner, Netane Muti, Quinn Meinerz, Lloyd Cushenberry, Quinn Bailey
About: The Broncos have some good pieces here to build around but still a big question at right tackle. That's a consideration in the draft, but could also be a fast target in free agency. The biggest question about the middle of the line is really which of the five options will end up playing.
