2022 Broncos' Season, Linebackers

 


Continuing my look at position groups as we go through the off-season, today I'm looking at linebackers. Below is who is on the roster and the biggest questions remaining!

Linebackers
On the Roster: Randy Gregory, Bradley Chubb, Baron Browning, Josey Jewell, Nik Bonitto, Christopher Allen, Jonathan Cooper, Malik Reed, Justin Strnad, Alex Singleton, Jonas Griffith, Barrington Wade, Aaron Patrick, Kadofi Wright, and Kana'i Mauga
About: There are a lot of linebackers on the roster right now and a lot of talent. In the 3-4 defense, the linebackers are the beating heart. They provide the teeth of the pass rush on the outside, run stuffing up the middle and some pass defense. A lot will be asked of this group, which is why the Broncos made some moves here this off-season.

Chubb, Cooper and Reed return on the outside, Browning, Jewell and Strnad all had a piece of the inside. The team also has a Special Teams specialist in Griffith. The Broncos added Singleton and Gregory in free agency, snagging Bonitto in the draft. Plus there's a number of other players currently sitting on the roster.

It's fair to assume the Broncos will carry eight, possibly as many as 10 players at this position. It's a crucial part of the defense and special teams, with depth playing a huge role. There will be some hard cuts and for those on the roster bubble, Training Camp and the three pre-season games will be crucial. The Broncos also need to get the most out of Chubb, entering his fifth year, and Gregory in order to thrive in the tough AFC West.

Broncos Draft Targets

  The NFL Draft is just a few days away. On April 25, the Denver Broncos will head into the draft in the midst of something of a rebuild. In the draft, the Broncos have the No. 12 pick in Round 1, then have a Third Round Pick, Fourth Round Pick, three Fifth Round Picks, a Sixth Round Pick, and a Seventh Round Pick. So, what might they be targeting? Let's dive in and look at possible positions. Quarterback : The team clearly needs a long-term quarterback. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are there but the team could certainly use someone else. Could they move up for Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy? Yes, they could. Will the take Bo Nix at 12? It's possible. Or will the Broncos wait until next off-season to make a move? Anything is in play for the Broncos in 2024, but quarterback is surely a need.
