2022 NFL Preview: NFC South Preview

As we near the NFL Season, I'm making my way through each division, from worst the best. I started with the AFC South, and now I'm making my way to the NFC South. Sure, the division has one great team, but it also has plenty of question marks. Let's dive in.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2022 Prediction
: 12-5
About: The Buccaneers had a roller-coaster of an off-season. The team lost in the Divisional Round and then saw quarterback Tom Brady retire to start the off-season. Then, just as surprisingly, Brady decided not to retire. Then coach Bruce Arians retired, giving way to Todd Bowles as Head Coach. The Buccaneers brought back Leonard Fournette, pieces on defense and added Julio Jones and Russell Gage. I think they're good enough to win the NFC South and make a deep playoff run in what I imagine will be the final season, for real this time, for Brady.

New Orleans Saints
2022 Prediction
: 9-8
About: There must be something in the water in the NFC South. The Saints also saw their coach, Sean Payton, retire. He was replaced by his Defensive Coordinator, too, in Dennis Allen. The Saints added some pieces, including drafting Chris Olave and signing Jarvis Landry to bolster the receiving corps. I like Jameis Winston and the pieces. Still, I think the Saints are a team that hovers around .500 and likely just misses the playoffs again.

Carolina Panthers
2022 Prediction
: 6-11
About: If 2022 does, indeed, mark the end of the Matt Rhule era in Carolina, it will be remembered for never solving the quarterback problem. The team had Teddy Bridgewater in 2020, Sam Darnold in 2021 and went and added Baker Mayfield for 2022. He's likely to be the starter and I don't think it will matter. The Panthers will have some decent games but there are still too many issues here. I'm not sold that Mayfield makes it better. I think this team slumps to another losing season and we get a lot more changes during the off-season.

Atlanta Falcons
2022 Prediction
: 3-14
About: The Falcons are a team in the midst of a re-build. In 2021 the team tried to hang on to Matt Ryan and make a run, finishing 7-10. With Ryan in Indianapolis and Calvin Ridley suspended, I think Marcus Mariota is just warming the seat at the Falcons look at another Top 10 pick, likely a Top 3 pick, in 2023. I think the team will be seeking a Franchise Quarterback and will look at being more competitive next year. They'll be a tough out, but I see a tough season in Atlanta.
