2022 Broncos' Season, Week 3

Week 3: Denver Broncos 11, San Francisco 49ers 10
Season Record: 2-1 (2-0 Home)
Key Play: In the fourth quarter, with the Broncos leading 11-10 and less than two minutes left, Jimmy Garoppolo connected with Jeff Wilson on a dump off pass. P.J. Locke forced the fumble, which was recovered by Kareem Jackson with 1:15 left to play. The Broncos knelt on the ball to win the game.

Recap: Progress can sometimes be a slow process. The Broncos came into the season with a lot of talent and plenty of optimism. A new coach, new system and a new quarterback offered the promise of better in 2022. The thing is, bringing all those pieces together also takes time. We saw that the first two weeks, as a barrage of penalties and inefficiencies made the game a slog. Week 3 was an improvement in some areas but not in all areas. Still, the Broncos were able to do enough to get a win and move to 2-1 on the season. And this win came over a quality opponent in the 49ers. The Broncos eliminated many of the costly penalties and did better in some areas of clock management. The hire Nathaniel Hackett made this week improved. I still question some of the playcalling, and beyond that it's hard not to be frustrated by some of the lack of execution. There were some big drops, including one from Jerry Jeudy that could have been a touchdown. And there were some errant throws, including one that should have been an easy and crucial first down aimed at a wide open Jerry Jeudy. There were too many punts and not enough splash plays, but it will likely take some time for the offense to progress. For now, the Broncos are 2-1 heading into a crucial game with the winless Raiders!

Game Balls:
* Courtland Sutton
. The Broncos' best receiver continues to produce, turning 10 targets into eight receptions for 97 yards to lead the pass offense.
* Josey Jewel. The linebacker led the team with nine tackles, also grabbing a sack and a couple big hits.

Lingering Concerns:
* Offensive Production
: The team has scored three touchdowns in three games, amassing just 43 points. That won't be enough going forward.
