Division Previews: NFC East

We're rapidly approaching the 2023 NFL Season, which means it's time for some previews. I'm going to be looking at each division, one-by-one, concluding today with the NFC East. Let's dive in.

Philadelphia Eagles:
2022 Record
: 14-3, First in the NFC East, Lost in Super Bowl
2023 Outlook: The Eagles were the best team in the NFC in 2022 and heading into a new season, things haven't changed much. There are a handful of great teams in the NFC, and that includes the Eagles. The team has some new weapons in the backfield with D'Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny joining Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott. But it's all about Jalen Hurts, one of the best young quarterbacks, along with a great trio of passing options in receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert. I expect the Eagles to have another good season.
2023 Outlook: I think the Eagles will win the NFC East and make another deep playoff run.

Dallas Cowboys:
2022 Record
: 12-5, Second in the NFC East. Lost in the Divisional Round
2023 Outlook: The Cowboys won 12 games for the second year in a row and made the playoffs for the second year in a row in 2022. For the second year in a row, they lost to the 49ers, too. That led to some changes on offense. Kellen Moore left for the Chargers, while starting running back Ezekiel Elliott was released. The team is putting it all on Tony Pollard, who was RB8 in 2022. They also added Brandin Cooks to provide a veteran receiver. Dallas isn't the best team in its division, but it's a Top 5 team in the NFC.
2023 Outlook: I think the Cowboys will win double-digit games and make the playoffs again.

New York Giants:
2022 Record
: 9-7-1, Third in the NFC East. Lost in the Divisional Round
2023 Outlook: In new Head Coach Brian Daboll's first year, the Giants were one of the biggest surprises in the league. It was due in part to a great year from Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. Both were free agents and both are back. That's the good news. The Giants also added veteran receiver Parris Campbell and tight end Darren Waller to provide some more passing game weapons. Will it make a big difference? Time will tell.
2023 Outlook: I think the Giants can win nine or 10 games again. They won't sneak up on anyone, but they'll be in the mix for the playoffs.

Washington Commanders:
2022 Record
: 8-8-1, Fourth in the NFC East
2023 Outlook: Despite finishing fourth in the division in 2022, the Commanders also produced their best record under coach Ron Rivera. The team failed to get traction at quarterback, so this off-season veteran Carson Wentz was released while Taylor Heinicke signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Now, things have been turned over to second-year man Sam Howell, who was a Fifth-Round pick a year ago. He started one game, so we don't have much to go on. Now, it's his time, with veteran Jacoby Brissett also on the roster. I don't suspect it's going to be a great year.
2023 Outlook: The Commanders kept the status quo to focus on an ownership change. That's done now, and I suspect a season where the team wins four or five games will lead to sweeping off-season changes.
