Games of the Week

We’re into Week 2 of the NFL season. Week 1 certainly produced some big surprises. No doubt the NFL’s second week will as well. In this weekly piece I highlight the five games I’m most excited to see on the Sunday slate. Below are my games for Week 2.

Sunday Early Games:
Baltimore Ravens (1-0) at Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)
About:
This is the second straight divisional game for the Bengals to start the year, and they need to do better. The Bengals couldn’t get anything going Week 1 in Cleveland and a Super Bowl hopeful can ill afford to start 0-2. The Ravens, meanwhile, got the win but lost J.K. Dobbins for the season. How will they overcome that loss? And can the passing game continue to make strides? All that will be on display in this battle of division rivals on Sunday.

Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) at Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0)
About:
This is a tale of two teams with very different Week 1 experiences. The Chiefs lost a heart-breaking game on the NFL’s opening night. They didn’t get much from the new group of receivers, too, and will be looking for better in Week 2. The Jaguars, meanwhile, got a stellar day from new receiver Calvin Ridley as they bested the Colts. The Jaguars would love to start 2-0 and take out an AFC rival, while the Chiefs can’t afford to lose more ground in a crowded conference. This should be a tough battle.

Sunday Late Games:
San Francisco 49ers (1-0) at Los Angeles Rams (1-0)
About:
The 49ers and the Rams each won in Week 1. The 49ers’ victory over the Steelers was expected. The Rams’ win in Seattle without Cooper Kupp was something of a surprise. The Rams entered the season with questions and quieted some doubters in Week 1. Can they do the same at home in Week 2? It’s a tall order to be able to tame the 49ers, but this battle of division rivals seems much more intriguing after the Week 1 finish.

New York Jets (1-0) at Dallas Cowboys (1-0)
About:
The Jets got a win Monday night, but it came with a giant loss as Aaron Rodgers was lost for the season. The Cowboys, meanwhile, smothered the New York Giants in a 40-0 win in Week 1. Now the Jets hit the road with a fierce defense and Zach Wilson back at the helm. Can the Cowboys make it 2-0 against New York teams to start the season or will the Jets’ defense be able to bottle up Dak Prescott and the boys. This figures to be a fun battle.

Sunday Night Football:
Miami Dolphins (1-0) at New England Patriots (0-1)
About:
The Dolphins’ offense picked up right where it left off with Tua Tagovailoa in 2022. The team put up 36 points as Tua went over 400 yards passing. The Dolphins got the win and look like a serious contender in the AFC. The Patriots’ offense took a while to get going, but once they did the team held tough against the reigning NFC Champion Eagles. With a second straight at home to open the season the Patriots can ill afford to go 0-2. Can the defense slow the Dolphins? Can Mac Jones get it going quicker? Those will be the challenges on Sunday Night Football.
