Upcoming Releases, February 2024

We made it through the first month of the new year. And while February is a short month, it's packed with new releases, including some highly anticipated new films.

Friday, February 2:
Argylle (Theaters):
This film comes from Matthew Vaughn and boasts a stellar cast and fun premise. I have high hopes based on the production.

The Tiger's Apprentice (Paramount+): Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh headline the cast of this fun film about a boy coming into his powers while facing a threat. The PG-rating indicates this will be a family-friendly film.

Bosco (Peacock): This new action film centers on a prison break in 2006. The cast includes Tyrese Gibson, Vivica A. Fox and Thomas Jane, among others. Could be an interesting action film.

Orion and Dark (Netflix): A new animated film, this one led by Jacob Tremblay as the voice of a young boy who is afraid of the dark. This offers another family-friendly option to kick off the month.

Friday, February 9:
Lisa Frankenstein (Theaters):
From Diablo Cody, this is a new take on the Frankenstein tale. It's also something of a romance timed for the season. The trailer looks fun and this could be one of the better February releases.

Turning Red (Theaters): This Pixar film from a couple years ago is getting a theatrical release. It had a fun, family-friendly vibe that should make fans excited to finally see it on the big screen.

Suncoast (Hulu): This film made its debut at Sundance last month and now gets a wide release on Hulu. It centers on a young woman (Nico Parker), who cares for her brother and mother (Laura Linney). This looks like an emotionally engaging drama.

Upgraded (Prime Video): Did I mention it's the season for romance? This streaming film, starring Camilla Mendes, is about a young intern who finds a love connection after getting an upgraded flight. A stay-at-home date night movie!

Wednesday, February 14:
Madame Web (Theaters):
Dakota Johnson leads the cast of this Spider-Man adjacent film. It's got a good cast and an interesting hook. It could be a fun holiday film.

Bob Marley: One Love (Theaters): Kingsley Ben-Adair leads as Marley in a biopic that follows key events in his life in 1977. It's had a big marketing campaign and looks like a big early 2024 release.

Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 (Theaters): A sequel to last year's horror film featuring Winnie and his 100-acre Woods friends. I can't imagine this being good.

Players (Netflix): Gina Rodriguez takes the lead in this romantic comedy about a Chicago sportswriter who frequently hooks up with players but now has found love. It's an interesting twist, but a decent cast that also includes Damon Wayans, Jr.

Friday, February 16:
Land of Bad (Theaters):
Russell Crowe stars as a drone pilot when things go wrong. Considering most films are getting a mid-week release, this might be one they aren't trying to get everyone to see.

This is Me...Now (Prime Video): It wasn't long ago we got a documentary about Jennifer Lopez, and yet we're getting another one. This promises to be nothing like anything we've seen before, so we'll see how it goes.

Friday, February 23:
Ordinary Angels (Theaters):
This faith-based drama is inspired by a true story. It features Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchison, offering a decent cast with a story that will tug at your heart-strings.

Driveaway Dolls (Theaters): Delayed from 2023, this is a crime drama focusing on two friends (Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan) who get caught up in some drama. It comes from Ethan Coen and wife Tricia Cooke, and looks like a spot of fun.
