Best Picture Nominees: Killers of the Flower Moon

On January 23, the Academy Award Nominations were announced. A total of ten films will be competing for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, which take place on Sunday, March 10. From now until then, I will be looking at each of the Best Picture Nominees.

Killers of the Flower Moon
Starring
: Lily Gladstone, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert De Niro
Director: Martin Scorsese
Total Nominations: 10
Nominated For: Best Picture, Best Director (Scorsese), Best Actress (Gladstone), Best Supporting Actor (De Niro), Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song
About: This was one of the most buzzed about films prior to 2023 and ended up being one of the most honored. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, making it one of the most nominated film. So, surely, it will be a big winner on Oscar night, right? Perhaps not. When looking at the races, I don't think it's a favorite in any of them. It could win for Picture or Director, but I don't think it will. De Niro is a great actor, but he's not a favorite, either. One of the most interesting races will likely be for Best Actress. Gladstone could well win, but it's not a lock. Still, that might be its best shot at an award. I could make a case for it in some of the technical categories, but again I don't think it's a favorite anywhere. In the end, I could well see Killers of the Flower Moon being a great film, nominated for many awards, that ends up going home empty-handed.
